Love is like writing a poem: if I try and force the words to go in a particular direction, I find myself stuck, lost in a middle with no paths out. If I simply focus on this line, and hold it lightly and allow the words to come to me when they choose and how they choose, the way is revealed to me. Even when orchestrating their positions, sounds, intentions and emotions, if I hold them lightly and listen to the way the words want to sing, listen to the way the words want to be heard, want to speak themselves, the words will show me the way.
I am realising that I do not have to know the end, it is not my job to know where the end lies or how I will get there. It is my job to be in the here and now, listening to the songs in the words, asking the words how they want to fall. The words choose us, because they know we are the best caretakers for them in that particular moment. The words choose us because they know we have the ability to bring their songs to light. They trust us. We should learn to trust ourselves, the same way the words do.
I imagine that if I can do that, I will find freedom in every moment, in every word, in every poem I write and speak.
I imagine if I can do that, I will find freedom in simply loving, without the restraint of needing to know how love will unfold.
