The launch of Woman.Object.Corpse took place at the Centre for African Studies Gallery on Wednesday April 24th. It is a group exhibition by South African and international women artists confronting the issue of violence against women. I wrote a new poem for the project, entitled silence(d),
click play above, to listen to it.
I worked with sound artist Anton Metrowich who recorded the poem and created a soundscape for it. For the performance at the launch, the poem played through speakers while I stood in the middle of the room, a strip of black masking tape over my mouth. (See photograph.)
I hope this poem moves people to reflect on their own reactions, responses and actions around gender based violence.
